Report: U.K. Heavy Metal Fans Defying Credit Crunch
July 19, 2009U.K.'s Daily Star reports: Heavy metal fans are defying the credit crunch by cranking up spending on their heroes’ CDs, T-shirts and show tickets.
Latest figures from music industry body the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) show rock is now the best-selling type of music in single and album formats.
Last year, more than a third (35.7%) of CDs sold in the U.K. was by a rock band, with pop, R&B, dance and hip hop well behind.
Metal music has been boosted by the popularity of video games Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
